Nervous about having a rainy wedding day? There are two ways to go about this: you can embrace the rain or hide from it! Obviously, we understand that you (or your wedding party) don’t want to spend two hours outside in the rain, but there is just something so romantic about a bride & groom in the rain. If you’re feeling up for an adventure and you’re willing to spend some time showing Mother Nature who’s boss, then we have a few suggestions that may make it easier!

1 . Umbrellas: We can’t stress this enough! The more the merrier! You can use umbrellas for your portraits or even for your entire wedding party. They all have to stay dry too, after all!  Stylistically, we suggest staying neutral, with either clear or white.

2 . Rain Boots: Target and other department stores always have cute rain boots on their shelves. These could make for some adorable photos with your girls and it would be great if you find boots that match your colors or the style of the day!

3 . First Look: Opting for a first look, in any case, is a great way to utilize more time for portraits! Opting for a first look if it rains on your wedding day is even better because you’ll have two chances (before and after the ceremony) for portraits, and there’s a chance the rain may stop for one of them. If it DOESN’T stop raining for your portrait windows, that’s okay too! This is the perfect time to talk about number 4.

4 . Choosing Your Venue: We know it’s not something you want to think of, but it’s important to think about rain when choosing your venue. Make sure you love it inside and out! If we are faced with bad weather, we can use beautiful indoor locations at your venue and hide under awnings, if possible, to still have your beautiful scenery in the background.

5 .Flexibility: Be willing to pop out of your reception for a few minutes for some rainy photos or wait for a sudden stop in the rain. We won’t keep you long, we know you have cocktails to drink and loved ones to mingle with, but we also know it’s important to give all of our clients the same wedding experience when it comes to photography! We follow the forecast like hawks, and we always make sure to bring you out, if the timeline allows, during breaks in the rain.

6 . Relax: This is probably the most important tip we can give you! You only get married ONCE, so you might as well enjoy it! We understand you may be upset about the rain, but guess what, at the end of the day you’re still going to be married to the love of your life! Go with the flow, and everything will be perfect…raindrops and all!
