Bride and grooms, read that title again! Now let us explain.
You have the ring, the date and the venue, next up, photographer. You search on every wedding blog, ask friends and scour Pinterest for the perfect photographer for your day. There are so many factors to consider when making your decision – “what style of photography do I like?” “How much am I willing to invest in this?” “What am I looking to get from my photographer on the day of my wedding?” “Have they ever shot at my venue?”
STOP.
We want to stop you right there! There are many questions that are important to ask your potential photographer but some questions actually mean nothing towards the final result. We have shot at some venues over 10 times and some venues only once. But what do the two situations have in common? We still give each one of our couples beautiful photos that they can cherish for years to come.
We know many blogs give brides-to-be, “questions for your photographer” and we can see why those lists include asking if the photographer has been to your venue before. But we often wonder what the reason behind this question really is! For us, when a potential couple tells us they are getting married at a venue that we have never been to, this is our chance to get creative and explore new possibilities. We scout the location online and in person to find the best spots for portraits and find out why a couple chose that venue in the first place. We are also prepared for any and all lighting situations. We are trained to know how to work with natural sunlight (this is what we use most often!) but also with artificial light as well.
Maybe the question shouldn’t be “have you ever shot at my venue?” but rather “how many unique venues have you been to?”. If a professional photographer has photographed ten weddings, each wedding at a new location and still all the weddings look beautiful and consistent with the photographers style, we’d say this is much more beneficial than a photographer who has shot ten weddings all at the same venue.
Enough words for now, we’ll let the photos do the talking for us! Below are some examples of the first time we shot at new venues! Every venue is a new venue…until it’s not!
